Book Review | How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie

Ain't nobody been wronged like Grace Bernard, the protagonist in Bella Mackie's debut novel How to Kill your family.

Grace wants to murder her filthy rich family and claim their filthy rich fortune. More than enough cash to promise a life full of leisure. It should be a piece of cake, really, considering she has spent the best part of the last 13 years conjuring up a plan. Apparently, all fair comeuppance towards her father, who abandoned her dying mother when she needed him the most.

However, we quickly learn that Grace is in prison for a murder she didn't commit. But that's not to say she ain't a killer. A killer with good reason? You be the judge.

Despite the morbid title, How to Kill Your Family was a hoot! Grace Bernard is a ruthless gal that's had revenge on her mind since day one. And let's be honest, she has a few tricks up her sleeve when it comes to murdering her family. She can conjure up a skillful plan for each person she kills and executes to perfection, literally.

One thing I can’t get over is just how much I learned about technology while reading this book. Enough to know that I am so behind the times and barely know how to use trendy gadgets. Maybe that is for the best, considering how effortless it seems for a hacker to get to work. Is that just my anxiety kicking in? Probably.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It’s not quite rainbows and butterflies, and perhaps the book cover/title will grant a few inquisitive looks. But, it's a quick, easy and enjoyable read. If you're looking for something that will make you laugh, believe it or not but following Grace’s murder plotting will do exactly that.  Oh, and of course, there is the ending which completely knocked me for six. If you know, you know.
